Baroque concert

Baroque concert at the Royal Castle of Govone

On Sunday 11 October 2026 at 4 pm, the Salone d’Onore of Govone Castle hosts “Between Court and Pastoral. Ceremonial and Divertissement”, a concert by the Baroque Orchestra of the Accademia di Sant’Uberto.

An event devoted to 18th-century music and to the constant interplay between court music and folk tradition that shaped the musical culture of the era.

Court music and folk tradition

The sharp divide between “cultured” and “popular” music is a relatively recent phenomenon. During the 18th century, genres and musical languages from different backgrounds engaged in dialogue and blended freely, giving rise to new musical forms.

This is precisely the theme of the concert “Between Court and Pastoral. Ceremonial and Divertissement”, which offers a journey through some of the most interesting expressions of this encounter.

The audience will hear hunting horns, musettes, flutes, strings and basso continuo, instruments that in turn tell the story of how repertoires and musical practices circulated among popular, bourgeois and aristocratic circles.

The programme

The concert opens with the Concerto for Two Horns TWV 52:F3 by Georg Philipp Telemann, marked by a constant shifting of registers and moods, from the opening Largo to the Allegro, through the Siciliana and the closing dance.

It continues with the Concerto No. 3 in G minor “La Moisson” by Antonio Vivaldi, in the arrangement by Nicolas Chédeville, for musette, flute, strings and basso continuo.

The programme goes on with the 1e Fantaisie à trois parties by Michel Corrette, for two musettes, violins and basso continuo.

The second half returns to Telemann with the Concerto for Two Horns TWV 52:D1, followed by the 2e Divertissement by Michel Corrette for two horns, galoubet-tambourin and musette, and by the 1er Ballet de Village by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier.

A repertoire in which fanfares, dances, pastorals and concert forms coexist and transform one another.

The performers

The concert will be performed by the Baroque Orchestra of the Accademia di Sant’Uberto, featuring:

  • Alessandro Conrado, violin I
  • Sara Audenino, violin II
  • Andrea Beatriz Lizarraga, viola
  • Clara Gilda Ruberti, cello
  • Francesco Zerbo, double bass
  • Adriano Zamboni, harpsichord

The soloists will be Giorgio Pinai (baroque transverse flute, galoubet-tambourin and baroque musette) and Michelangelo Lotito (baroque hunting horn), with the participation of Jean-Pierre van Hees on baroque musette and Ermes Pecchinini on baroque hunting horn.

The hunting horn: a UNESCO heritage

One of the distinctive elements of the event will be the hunting horn, the protagonist of several works on the programme.

The Musical Art of Hunting Horn Players has been recognised since 2020 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, an acknowledgement that highlights the value of this musical tradition and of its transmission over time.

EXPLORE

DISCOVER THE VISIT ROUTE

Cross through time as you explore the Castle’s rooms.

Initially a noble palace, then a royal residence, and finally a community hub for all the people of Govone, the Castle weaves together centuries of history. Visiting it means retracing the steps that shaped it into the multifaceted—and therefore unique—place it is today.

DISCOVER GOVONE

THE PARK, THE GARDENS, THE VILLAGE, AND THE HIKING PATHS

Govone extends beyond my walls. It is an entire community that takes care of the magnificent places it inhabits. I invite you to explore everything that surrounds me: the park and the gardens, the greenhouse, the intimate rose garden, the village, and the outdoor trails immersed in nature, which you can explore on foot or by bike.

The park, inhabited by squirrels, woodpeckers, jays, embraces the castle all around with its hedges of boxwood, beech trees, elms, and cypresses.

The gardens gather and showcase Maria Cristina's passion for botany, particularly for roses, displaying various splendid antique varieties.

The historic center extends the visit beyond the castle walls, revealing the authenticity of a village that, while continuing to live, preserves its memory.

The trails lead you along the edges of the constellation of which the castle is the protagonist, through fields, vineyards, and hazelnut groves, allowing you to discover the land.
