FLOWERS AND OTHER BRILLIANT GEMS

The castle and the places intimately linked to it, when seen together, form a figure, a design. But this design would be nothing more than a sketch if it weren’t for the vibrant colors that the gardens, plants, and flowers spread upon it.

The park, together with the garden of box hedges and pathways, surrounds the castle and marks its reopening every spring, starting from the end of March, when the red tulips bloom, becoming the main stars of the “Tulips at the Court” event.

“Regally Pink” then leads you, every weekend in May, to discover the rose garden, an intimate garden of antique roses located outside the castle walls.

And finally, magical sunsets and breathtaking views frame your unforgettable moments from the three terraces: the one in front of the castle with a view of Langhe and Roero, the Alps and the Apennines; the terrace of the hanging gardens with a view of Langhe and the Apennines, and the terrace above the rose garden with a view of Roero and the Alps.

DISCOVERING NEAR AND FAR HORIZONS

THE TERRACES

Turning your back to the castle, beyond the entrance guarded by stone hounds, there is a terrace that offers you a rare panoramic view of Langhe, Roero, the Alps, and the Apennines. The green of the nearby hills gradually fades into the blue of the higher and more distant hills, and finally, the white peaks of the mountains rise on the horizon, including the unmistakable silhouette of Monviso.

There is also a terrace located in the hanging gardens around the castle, from which you can admire the Langhe and the Apennines, immersed in the sweet, fragrant notes of the blooming garden. And finally, the terrace above the rose garden, from where you can clearly see the Langhe and the Alps.

THE ROSE GARDEN

Nestled in the center of Govone is a multicolored gem: the rose garden. It gathers a great variety of antique roses, the result of extensive research and continuous work, an inheritance of the passion that Queen Maria Cristina had for this flower with a dual character.

During the blooming season, its fragrance can be sensed already halfway down the descent from the central square of Govone, leading to the two churches of the village. Then, skirting the Church of the Holy Spirit and looking to your left, you can see it shining just a little lower. If you are fortunate enough to be in the area in May, every Sunday you can be guided to discover the rose garden by those who have cared for it and continue to do so, on the occasion of “Regally Pink.”

TULIPS AT THE COURT

In March, the park’s meadow is dotted with small red torches. The blooming of the bulbs inaugurates the opening of the visiting season in the castle. Every year, following tradition, the first day of reopening is dedicated to “Tulips at the Court,” a community celebration filled with surprises for adults and children alike.

Tulipa oculus solis: this is the variety, with a name inspired by oriental tastes, that you can admire if, on a warm spring afternoon, you decide to take a stroll and discover this flower with pointed petals, which holds within it the imprint of the sun. Here, in Govone, it finds its natural habitat and grows spontaneously.
