La Voix Humaine di Poulenc al Castello Reale di Govone

Govone Smart Music Concert – September 14, 2025, 5:00 PM

On Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 5:00 PM, the Hall of Festivities of the Royal Castle of Govone will host a new event of the Govone Smart Music season, featuring the presentation of La Voix Humaine by Francis Poulenc, performed by pianist Lorenzo Marasso and soprano Laura Bohn.

Composed in 1959 on a text by Jean Cocteau, La Voix Humaine is a monodrama for voice and piano that unfolds as a long telephone monologue. An intimate and everyday episode is transformed, thanks to Poulenc’s music, into a universal confession on love and abandonment, with an intense writing style of great emotional power.

The performance in Govone marks the premiere of this new production, which will later be presented in 2026 in Seattle for the Seattle Chamber Orchestra, where Lorenzo Marasso serves as Music Director.

The performers

  • Lorenzo Marasso, pianist and conductor, has built a brilliant international career between Italy, England, and the United States. He is the Artistic and Music Director of the Seattle Chamber Orchestra, where he curates programs intertwining classical repertoire, contemporary music, and new commissions.

  • Laura Bohn, American soprano, has performed in major European and American theaters. Her vocal and stage interpretation of La Voix Humaine has been repeatedly praised for its emotional intensity and strong theatrical involvement.

The event will take place in the Hall of Honor of the Royal Castle of Govone, a baroque jewel of the Savoy residence and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by the historic park and a village that combines art, history, and landscape.

The festival Govone Smart Music, directed by Mariacarla Cantamessa and promoted by Govone Residenza Sabauda ETS, represents a cultural journey that connects music, heritage, and community, strengthening the cultural identity of the territory.

EXPLORE

DISCOVER THE VISIT ROUTE

Cross through time as you explore the Castle’s rooms.

Initially a noble palace, then a royal residence, and finally a community hub for all the people of Govone, the Castle weaves together centuries of history. Visiting it means retracing the steps that shaped it into the multifaceted—and therefore unique—place it is today.

DISCOVER GOVONE

THE PARK, THE GARDENS, THE VILLAGE, AND THE HIKING PATHS

Govone extends beyond my walls. It is an entire community that takes care of the magnificent places it inhabits. I invite you to explore everything that surrounds me: the park and the gardens, the greenhouse, the intimate rose garden, the village, and the outdoor trails immersed in nature, which you can explore on foot or by bike.

The park, inhabited by squirrels, woodpeckers, jays, embraces the castle all around with its hedges of boxwood, beech trees, elms, and cypresses.

The gardens gather and showcase Maria Cristina's passion for botany, particularly for roses, displaying various splendid antique varieties.

The historic center extends the visit beyond the castle walls, revealing the authenticity of a village that, while continuing to live, preserves its memory.

The trails lead you along the edges of the constellation of which the castle is the protagonist, through fields, vineyards, and hazelnut groves, allowing you to discover the land.
